This carousel book is an illustrated retelling of Charles Perault's "The Fairies," a fairy tale that originated in France in 1697. I was inspired mostly by traditional fairytale books and used an art style appealing to young readers.
Spread 1: "There once was a young girl, with a bright spirit and her elder sister and mother, with grim hearts."
Spread 2: "Leaving the market, an old lady approached the young girl with a great thirst. The young girl, being kind, gives her a water bottle to drink from."
Spread 3: "Her thirst acted as a test of character, for the old lady was truly a beautiful fairy, and rewards the kind young girl with a gift, turning her words into flowers and jewels!"
Spread 4: "Once home, the mother witnesses and envies her daughter's new ability. She promptly sends her eldest to seek the fairy and be given the same gift."
Spread 5: "Due to her dreadful nature, the eldest daughter arrives home with snakes and toads in her words instead of flowers and jewels! Blinded by rage, the mother blames their misfortune on the young girl. Fearing her mother and sister, the young girl runs off."
Spread 6: "Now free from her past, the young girl has started a peaceful new life with her blooming garden of flowers and jewels open to her community. spreading the message of kindness and generosity to all."
